The Francis H. Bennett World War II Collection relates to Bennett's training and career in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, circa 1943-1945. It consists of primarily textual materials, including a graduation announcement, an Air Medal award citation, correspondence, military newsletters, printed ephemera, three pages from a scrapbook, and an original poem by Bennett. There is also a photographic portrait of Captain Francis H. Bennett in his Army Air Force uniform. Additionally, there is a small amount of material related to his wife, Edith H. Bennett.

Biographical Note: Francis H. Bennett

Captain Francis H. Bennett was a pilot with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He graduated from pilot school at Marfa Air Base (Texas) in 1943 and also completed training at Lemoore Army Air Field (California). Captain Bennett was assigned to the 305th Bombardment Group (Eighth Air Force) in England and flew Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. No further information is known.

Custodial History

The items were found in the book 305th Bombardment Group (H) (see Separated Materials note), that was part of the Champlin Fighter Museum Collection obtained in 2003. The album has 'Capt. F. H. Bennett' embossed on the cover. The original donor and provenance is unknown.
