Contents of the Collection

The Katherine (Magruder) Rutledge Eastern Airlines Flight Attendant Collection is a small collection of training materials collected and used by Rutledge during her 1966 Eastern Airlines flight attendant training. Materials include quizzes, study guides, notes, practice forms and reports, and policies and procedures aboard aircraft. Specific aircraft covered in the training materials include the Boeing Model 720 and the Douglas DC-8. Examples of topics covered include "high-altitude sense," "ditching and survival," "marine time," "mixed beverage service," and "operation of aft door and airstairs." Example forms include beverage sales records, daily record of deposits, flight pay claim log, and passenger loading record, among others.

Biographical Note: Katherine (Magruder) Rutledge

Katherine (Magruder) Rutledge (1946-) was an Eastern Airlines flight attendant between 1966-1971.

Katherine "Kem" Magruder was born on August 7, 1946 to Marjorie and Neil Magruder in Greenwood, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated in 1964. In 1966 Magruder began working for Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. She remained there until 1971. Magruder married Peter Rutledge in Indianola, Missisippi. The couple had two children. No further information is known.

Processing Information

The collection arrived in a binder. Materials were removed from the binder for preservation reasons but original order has been maintained. Some items were unfolded and flattened. All materials were placed in acid-free folders.
