Air West and Hughes Airwest Photographs and Slides

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 1987-09-22-F

Contents of the Collection

The Air West and Hughes Airwest Photographs and Slides contains 48 photographic prints and and 310 color slides related to Air West and Hughes Airwest airlines, respectively. The materials date to circa 1970s-1990s and are publicity and/or advertisement photographs.

The color slides form the bulk of the collection and depict Hughes Airwest flight attendants in their uniforms, the majority of which are yellow and blue, although other styles are present. The flight attendants are pictured in and near aircraft as well as without aircraft in posed settings. Katherine Hern is one of the female flight attendants depicted and Ryan O'Neil is the male flight attendant; other individuals have not been identified. The slides were originally housed in a branded Hughes Airwest 3-ring plastic binder, but have been removed for preservation reasons. Original order was maintained and the binder remains with the collection for artefactual context. It is yellow and has "Hughes Airwest" printed in blue on the front cover.

The 11x14-inch prints depict Air West passengers, flight attendants, ground crew, pilots, ticket counters, aircraft, and terminals. Identified locations include Los Angeles and San Jose, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Phoenix, Arizona. Some prints include captions with limited context. The majority of the prints are in black-and-white. Duplication occurs.
