John McCullough Early Boeing Photographs
Content Description
The John McCullough Early Boeing Photographs is a small collection consisting of nine photographs depicting Boeing Company employees and aircraft, circa 1930.
Four images depict aircraft including a Stearman C-3, Boeing 203s, a Boeing 203A, a Loening C-2C air ferry, and a glider built by the Mattley Airplane and Motor Company. Four photographs depict unidentified young men, possibly employees at the Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, California. The photographs are all black-and-white and most are 4.5x2.75 inches, though a few have been cut smaller. The photographs were affixed to loose album pages though the pages were missing many photographs. The images have some brief captions, but do not identify the people pictured. The album pages were taken from a photo album created by McCullough. McCullough, who was from Albany, New York, took the photos in 1930 when we went on a cross-country trip to visit his friend Charles Kirtchner who was living in Alameda, California. Kirtchner worked in the aviation industry and was presumbaly working for the Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland at the time the photographs were taken. It is possible that Kirtchner and McCullough appear in the photographs, but they are not identified.
