 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 2009-06-05

Contents of the Collection

The Arthur Wayne Byron Airline Pilot Collection is comprised of primarily textual materials with some photographs that document Byron's commercial pilot career with Western Airlines and Delta Airlines. Materials date from mid-1940s through the 1980s.

Textual materials include pilot logs dating from 1955-1987; organizational records for Western Airlines, including documents related to the merger of Western Airlines and Pacific Northern Airlines in 1967, as well as the merger of Western Airlines and Delta Airlines in 1986; instructional materials for pilots, including seminar summaries, manuals, guides, and exam sheets; correspondence and memos; and accident and incident reports.

There are also scrapbook pages, which include clippings, cartoons and drawings, and photographs. All of the items are affixed to the pages with tape/glue and do not include captions. It is unknown if there are captions on the reverse of any of the photographs. There is a small amount of loose photographs, both in color and black-and-white. They depict assorted Western Airline aircraft, as well as include two (2) photographs of the Blue Angels and one (1) photograph of President John F. Kennedy in front of a Pacific Northern airplane.
