George P. Boyle Collection

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 2004-04-13-A
The George P. Boyle Collection is comprised of two series; World War II aerial reconnaissance photographs and Boeing memorabilia.

Series I, World War II aerial reconnaissance photographs, includes fifty-eight (58) black-and-white photographs dated 1945. The photographs vary in size, from 9.5x9.5" to 10x19" and include front captions providing contextual information such as location, date, and type of image, such as "post strike." The images were taken in various locations within Japan, including Nagoya and Tokyo. On the reverse of each photograph is a stamp: "Restricted Classification - Cancelled to Unclassified by Authority of John F. [illegible], [Capt?] A C - July 25, 1945." Also included with this series is a single textual item; a leaflet in Japanese with translation:

Ni-Do Aru Koto Wa San Do Aru (What happens twice will happen three times.). You should know the strength of American air power. This same power is causing your partner Germany to surrender. Our bombers will return, not only once or twice or three times, but many times as long as your militarists continue this war.

The second series, Boeing memorabilia, consists of brochures, printed ephemera, including a decal and a safety card, and six (6) photographs (five are black-and white, one is color). The brochure is in Spanish and relates to the Boeing 737. There is also a safety brochure for the Boeing YC-14 and an exit procedure card with a note that it was used during a Boeing flight test. Additional ephemera is related to ERIS - FTV Flight I Intercept and includes a decal and a summary sheet, dated January 28, 1991. Finally, the six (6) photographs depict a Boeing facility, rocket launches, and a composite picture of two different aircraft. None of these photographs have contextual information in the form of captions or stamps.
