The Ferrari Family Boeing Collection is a small collection consisting of materials related to the aviation careers of Ottavio and Roy J. Ferrari with the Boeing Company. Ottavio’s career is represented by an incomplete copy of a Fiat Company newsletter, Il Bianco e Rosso dated July 31, 1924, which published his inspector's memo regarding the shipment of engine parts for Fiat from Boeing in 1934. Roy J. Ferrari’s Boeing employment is illustrated with an employee identification card. John B. Peirone, also a Boeing employee and related by marriage to the Ferraris, is depicted in a photograph.

Overview

A small collection of photographs, newsletter, and ID card related to Boeing employees Ottavio Ferrari and Roy J. Ferrari.

Biographical Note: Ferrari, Ottavio

Ottavio Ferrari worked in the shipping and crating industry for aviation companies in the United States during the first half of the 20th century. He was born April 10, 1895 in Popiglio, Italy. In World War I, he was a Sergeant in the Alpini Corps, the Italian Army's specialist mountain infantry. Ottavio moved to the United States where he became a supervisor in the shipping and crating department at the Boeing Company from 1920 to 1947. In this position he oversaw shipping material to the Fiat Company in Italy for Boeing in 1934. His Inspector's Memo made it into the local Italian newspapers. After working at Boeing, he started a contracting firm, Ferrari and Son, partnering with his son Roy. He remained with the company from 1947 until his retirement in 1959. He died in 1961.
Biographical Note: Ferrari, Roy John Roy Ferrari, born in 1921, followed in his father's footsteps and worked at Boeing Aircraft Company. He died in 1996. No further information is known.
