Peggy Eckert Verger United Airlines Flight Attendant Collection

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 2008-07-30

Contents of the Collection

The Peggy Eckert Verger United Airlines Flight Attendant Collection is comprised of photographs and textual materials gathered by Verger during her 36-year flight attendant career with United Airlines (UAL), 1966-2003.

The bulk of the collection is textual materials including Verger's UAL service record (1966-1977); financial records, such as paystubs and receipts; employee recognication letters; Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) labor agreements and membership cards; and UAL manuals, including checklists and uniform and personal appearance regulations. There are also UAL Air Atlas maps (1965-1977), Flight Attendant in-flight announcement booklets, and menus, inlcuding one special Thanksgiving menu. Additional materials include a small amount of aircraft industry publications, such as Mainliner and Passenger and In-Flight Service. Assorted ephemera such as a 1967 “Stik-a-State” activity booklet for children, coat tags for seats, and a UAL office key card are also present.

There is a small amount of both color and black-and-white photographs in a variety of sizes, including a large panoramic group portrait of flight attendants in front of a Boeing 747. The bulk of the photographs do not include identifying information but a couple do have handwritten numbers on the back of the image. Many of the images are portraits, but some are more casual. Quite a few appear to be publicity shots featuring UAL uniforms and personnel. Additionally, there are a handful of images showing Peggy Eckert at her stewardess school graduation (1966) and in flight, circa 1968.
