Series VII. Curtiss-Wright Corporation, 1928-1965
Scope and Contents
The Curtiss-Wright Corporation series, with records spanning 1928-1965, is divided into five subseries: Administrative records, Legal records, Financial records, Aircraft documentation, and Airport documentation. The series largely documents real property owned by the company.
The Administrative records subseries has little documentation of day-to-day operations but rather includes blank forms, narrative histories of the company and of some of its predecessors, and publicity files which make up the bulk of the subseries. The publicity files include correspondence with John H. O'Connell of the public relations department, reports and other information to be used in annuals and related publications, and promotional "trade literature" pieces. Of particular note are several folders containing 63 photographic prints and related publicity documents documenting women in the workforce. There are a few additional photographic prints and negatives mixed among with documents in this subseries.
The Legal records subseries consists entirely of records related to real property owned by the company, primarily property in New Jersey owned under the name of Wright Aeronautical Corporation. The files include legal indentures, articles of agreement, correspondence regarding receipts and disbursements related to property acquisition. Some photographs are mixed in. The document titled "Exhibit W" relating to Wright Aeronautical Corporation Plants 1 and 2 may have been published in relation to selling the property.
The Financial records consist only of examples of stock certificates and do not include any other financial information or ledgers.
The Aircraft documentation subseries contains a minimal amount of material. Airport documentation is more extensive with blueprints, drawings, 139 photographic prints and other materials apparently used in the research and development of airports affiliated with Curtiss-Wright Airports Corporation and Curtiss-Wright Flying Service. Refer to the photographs series (Series VIII) for further visual documentation of aircraft and airfields.
