Biographical Note: Mildred Filz Merrill
Mildred Filz Merrill was an early female pilot in Seattle, Washington. She learned to fly at the Washington Aviation Co. Inc. from local pilot, Elliott Merrill, whom she later married on September 30, 1936. In 1933, she was one of the founding members of the Associated Women Pilots of Boeing Field, and was also active in the local chapter of the “99’s”, the International Organization of Women Pilots. On May 19, 1938 she became an authorized air mail pilot, and flew mail routes between Olympia and Seattle for Pacific Air Transport.
