Scope of the Collection
The John W. Lambert Photograph Collection consists of 9,687 black-and-white and color photographs, 2,048 black-and-white and color negatives and nine photographic slides, as well as a small amount of textual material primarily documenting air operations during World War II. The strength of the collection is that it includes visual documentation of Army Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Allied aircraft in combat around the world. Contents of the Collection
The collection consists of an incident report and photographs of a B-17G crew, 490th Bomber Group, 850th Squadron, based in Eye, East Anglia, England with its aircraft that was damaged by enemy fire during a bombing mission on March 9, 1945. The two-page report by B-17 pilot Robert Mason describes that the crew came under flak fire en route to their bombing target: railroad yards in Frankfurt, Germany. A shell passed through the No. 2 engine in the left wing without exploding....

The Jim Plant oral interview is a small collection consisting of an audio recording and related document of an oral interview conducted by Fred Parkinson with his uncle Jim Plant in August 1996 about Plant's experience as a prisoner of war during World War II. James Plant was a bomber pilot for the Royal Air Force during World War II who was shot down in July 1940 over Germany. He was detained as a prisoner of war for five wars until he was released on May 2, 1945 by the Allies....
