Charles B. D. Collyer Collection

Abstract

Charles B. D. Collyer (1896-1928) enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps during World War I. After the war Collyer broke the record for circumnavigation of the globe. On the return trip, Collyer died attempting to break his own record. The collection contains correspondence about naming an airfield in his honor as well as a photograph and drawing of Collyer.

Contents of the Collection The James H. Howard Fighter Ace Collection contains textual, photographic, and audiovisual materials in support of James H. Howard's Medal of Honor awarded in June 1944. Materials include military records, clippings, and photographs, among others. Due to the collection's small size, it has been arranged alphabetically. Howard was awarded the Medal of Honor in June 1944 for actions taken on January 11, 1944, the only fighter pilot in the European Theater to earn the distinction....

Lambert Photograph Collection consists of 9,687 black-and-white and color photographs, 2,048 black-and-white and color negatives and nine photographic slides, as well as a small amount of textual material primarily documenting air operations during World War II. The strength of the collection is that it includes visual documentation of Army Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Allied aircraft in combat around the world.
