Merle M. Coons Fighter Ace Collection

Abstract Colonel Merle Coons (1921-1997) was a United States Air Force fighter pilot, earning ace status during World War II. The collection is a subset of the American Fighter Aces Collection and includes primarily textual materials, such as military orders and records, flight records and a log book, and a scrapbook, as well as a photograph album and a small amount of loose photographs.

Lee Embree Collection

Abstract Lee R. Embree (1915-2008) was born in Iowa, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1936, and was assigned to the 38th Reconnaisance Squadron as an aerial photographer during World War II. Embree was at Hickam Field, Hawaii during the 1941 Pearl Harbor bombing and took several photographs. The collection contains photographs, textual materials, audiovisual materials, and a scrapbook that relate to Embree's military service and photography as well as his post-war photography activities.

David O. Hill Seaboard World Airlines Collection

Abstract David O. Hill (1939-) was a pilot for Seaboard World Airlines (SWA). Hill was also SWA's archivist and historian. The collection relates to the company history, personnel, and operations of Seaboard World Airlines (SWA), from its establishment in 1946 to 1980 when it merged with Flying Tigers Line and is comprised primarily of textual materials, the bulk of which are scrapbooks; but also includes photographic materials, including prints, slides, and negatives; and a single DVD.

Contents of the Collection The Kirk Knutson Spyplane Scrapbook is comprised of assorted clippings and articles about various aircraft used for surveillance, circa 1950s-1960s. The materials are from various newspapers and magazines and cover aircraft such as the Lockheed U-2, Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, and Lockheed YF-12. Lockheed U-2 Pilot Marty Knudson is also mentioned in a couple of clippings.Most of the material is affixed to the pages with glue, tape or staples, but some are loose. There are no captions...
