The collection dates from 1910 to 2006 and is predominantly comprised of photographic materials and a small number of textual documents collected by Newcomb during his time in the field of aviation.

The Robert Newman Soviet Pressure Helmet Documentation collection is a small collection consisting of a few documents related to a Soviet Air Force Gsh-6 A pressurized helmet. The archival collection includes a humidity indicator document in Russian; a booklet titled "Certificate for Soviet Air Force Gsh-6 A pressurized helmet;" a booklet titled "Certificate for K-66 exhale valve;" and a map of Kandahar, Afghanistan, dated 1982 at 1:100,000 scale.
