Contents of the Collection

The Burr D. Cline Boeing Photographs and Negatives is a small collection comprised of seven black-and-white photographs and 18 negatives taken in Seattle, Washington, circa 1929-1937. The photographs were taken with or collected by Burr D. Cline, Sr. who worked for Boeing Airplane Company in the Final Assembly Department in the 1920s-1940s.

Most of the negatives depict Boeing aircraft at Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington. Aircraft include the Boeing Model 80A, Boeing Model 203, Boeing Model 95 "Hornet Shuttle", and the Lockheed Vega. In several images, unidentified people are present and Boeing Airplane Company buildings are visible. In one image, an unidentified woman sits in an aircraft cockpit. Another image depicts an aircraft in Alaska-Washington Airways livery. There are also three negatives that depict the Boeing Model 200 Monomail; these have corresponding digital reprints. One of the images has both a digital reprint and an original print.

The collection also contains two 8x10-inch group portraits of Boeing employees; one of which was taken at Seattle's 1937 Labor Day parade and depicts the employees in front of a parade float. Both Burr D. Cline, Sr. and Burr D. Cline, Jr. are in the front row of the image. The second photograph, which is accompanied by a digital reprint duplicate, also depicts a large number of Boeing employees, likely at Boeing Field. Cline, Sr. is 9th from the left on the bottom row.
