Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center Collection
Contents of the Collection
The Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center Collection is comprised of textual, photographic, and audiovisual materials that relate to the operations of the Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC). Materials are dated from 1959 to 1986 with bulk dates in the 1980s.
The collection mostly focuses on training materials, including technical diagrams and drawings of the "Dysim," a simulator used for controller training; diagrams of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ILS (instrument landing system); signage masters and copies that likely directed students through the facility as well as provided directions; clippings, and correspondence. There is also a 1961 audiocassette labeled as "Training tape: the hand-off." Two slides and five color photographs are also present. The images, which do not have captions, depict control towers. A small number of materials pertain the 1986 50th anniversary of the air traffic control system, including a speech, decals, and a historical sketch of the air traffic control system in Seattle, Washington. Also present are materials related to the "current museum project" for the ARTCC, including notes, example display labels, signage, and related correspondence.
