Content Description

The Clark C. McClelland Snoopy Space Collection is a small collection comprised of documents produced by NASA during the Apollo Program featuring the Peanuts cartoon characters Snoopy and Charlie Brown. The collection includes five stickers, ten motivational posters, one booklet, and a certificate, all dated between 1967-1969.

The stickers all depict Snoopy in a space suit and promote Project Apollo. One reads "Apollo VIP" with an illustration of Snoopy on the Moon. Another reads "Apollo Launch Team" and includes an illustration of Snoopy next to a Saturn V rocket. One shaped like the Apollo Command Module has text reading: "Project Apollo Recovery Team" with an image of Snoopy on his dog house in water. The stickers are various shapes, but all roughly 3x4 inches.

The motivational posters were used internally at NASA to motive employees to keep safety in mind while working on the Apollo Program. They have such slogans as "Demonstrate your ability. Do it once... Do it right... Guarantee a Successful Flight" and "Apollo will be judged by results not intentions!" Seven of the posters feature Snoopy, but three do not. Two of the Snoopy posters are also Christmas-themed. The posters are all 8 x 10.5 inches.

The booklet is the "Countdown and Mission Profile" for the May 1969 Lunar Mission (Apollo 10). Snoopy and Charlie Brown were mascots of this mission, with the Command and Service Module having code name Charlie Brown and and the Lunar Module being code named Snoopy. The booklet provides an overview of the mission, its objectives, vehicles, and flight plan as well as biographies of the crew. A few illustrations of Snoopy and Charlie Brown are included among the photographic images.

Finally, the collection includes a certificate for the "Silver Snoopy Award." The award was intended to recognize NASA employees whose contributions enhanced flight safety. This certificate is blank.
