Thomas Orton Nose Art Photographs
Contents of the Collection
The Thomas Orton Nose Art Photographs is a single-file collection that is comprised of six photographs that depict nose art. Four of the images are black-and-white and are dated circa 1940s. Three depict shots of the Martin B-26 "Sit N'Git" and one image features the nose art for "Flak Bait." Two prints include military personnel next to the aircraft. There are also two color snapshots in the collection, likely circa 1970s-1980s. One image depicts Thomas Orton with General Chuck Yeager at an airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and the other is a slightly out of focus close-up of needlework replication of "Sit N'Git" nose art. A caption on verso states it has been donated to the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh. Photograph sizes vary from 2x2-inches to 8x10-inch and some include brief captions with contextual information, such as names, dates, or locations.
