Contents of the Collection

The Donald William Ferguson U.S. Air Force Navigator Collection contains primarily textual materials related to Fergusons's 1943-1953 military service as a navigator. The bulk of the materials focus on Ferguson's World War II service with individual flight training sheets, student officer tracking sheets, course completion certificates, physical evaluations, military orders and assignments, and related correspondence.

There are also five undated photographs, including a black-and-white group portrait of military personnel, likely at Ferguson's 1944 military training graduation. The photograph includes a caption which identifies the men, including Ferguson. Two additional photographs depict Ferguson. One is a black-and-white portrait in his military dress uniform, the other is a color Kodachrome snapshot that depicts Ferguson outside a home. Two black-and-white photographs depict partial shots of a military aircraft, like a B-26 Marauder. Sizes vary from 2x3-inches to 8x10-inches.

Also present is a small amount of documentation related to Ferguson's 1951-1953 Korean War service with the 3rd Bombardment Wing (L), Fifth Air Force. Documents include orders, pay records, security information, correspondence, training reports, individual flight records, and an Air Medal citation. There are also two 1950 aeronautical charts, one for Sinanju, Korea and the other for Tongjosŏn Bay, Korea. Both maps have notations likely related to missions Ferguson participated in.

A mix of original and photocopied documents are included in the collection.
