Content Description

Ralph B. McCormick Boeing Collection is a small collection of materials relating to McCormick’s career as an aeronautical engineer with the Boeing Company from 1951 to 1989. The collection dates from 1944 to 1989 and is comprised of personnel records, reports, program schedules, technical diagrams, hand-drawn preliminary designs with accompanying hand-written notes, clippings, as well as lantern slides of a professional presentation. In addition to the materials noted above, there are photographic prints both in color, as well as black-and-white. The images are a mix of personal snapshots taken by McCormick and Boeing official photographs of employees, company aircraft, labs, and facilities related to projects that McCormick worked on during his time with the Boeing Company.

Biographical Note: Ralph B. McCormick

Ralp B. McCormick was an aeronautical engineer with the Boeing Company from 1951 to 1989.

Ralph Barrett McCormick was born in Seattle, Washington on January 21, 1927, to Lucia and Joseph McCormick. He attended the University of Washington, where he received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1951.

While attending college McCormick began working for the Boeing Company on their Transonic Wind Tunnel project. After graduation he remained with Boeing. During his employment McCormick worked on the wind tunnel project, designed engine turbines, as well as worked on designs for Boeing’s YC-14 airlifter, the 2707 SST "Supersonic Transport" airliner, and the Boeing Model 747 aircraft. He remained with the company until his retirement in 1989.

On December 20, 1947, McCormick married Mary Louise Mondt in Seattle. They remained in the area and had four children together.

Ralph B. McCormich passed away on December 17, 2013, in Seattle.
