Identifier: 2012-10-12
The Francis States Pan Am Collection is a collection of visual and textual materials collected by States during his career as Supervisor of Commisary/Food Service for Planes at Pan Am in the mid-to-late twentieth century.

The collection includes some employee documents; brochures and maps for Hawaii and Alaska; route maps; brochures for Clipper service; menus, including a series from 1958 with images of Hong Kong, Japan, Scotland, Hawaii, and England, an undated Clipper service Thanksgiving menu, and a menu from President Richard M. Nixon's visit to The People’s Republic of China, February 1972; assorted postcards showing destinations and aircraft; and some printed ephemera including a time selector card and a "Pierre Panda's Fabulous Flying Fun Kit" for children with various activities. In addition, there are ten photographs and one photomechanical print, primarily 8x10-inch black-and-white official Pan Am images, but also a few snapshots. A few depict Super Six Clippers, including a cockpit view and interior with passengers. Two images also show a Pan Am Hotel in Africa that States ran. A couple images depict food.
