Scope and Contents of Collection

The James George Burton Photograph Collection is comprised of two (2) panoramic photographs relating to the Army Balloon School at Ross Field, Arcadia, California, where Burton was a student. The photographs show students of the school posed with balloons, jeeps, and motorcycles. Both photographs are credited to the Huddleston Photo Company of Los Angeles, California.

Biographical Note: James George Burton

James George Burton was born on May 26, 1893 in Nebraska. He served in the United States Army from 1918 to 1919 as a member of the United States Army Air Service, 52nd Balloon Company communications division. After his discharge Burton went on to have a career as an electrician. In 1926, he married Marguerite Shaeffer Burton (1896-circa 1978) in Bell, California and they had two children, Charles G. Burton and Evalyn Amirault. James George Burton died in Los Angeles, California at the age of 65 on October 20, 1958.
