The correspondence pertains to efforts to locate the two shares of stock in Simplex Automobile Company owned by Henry C. Murphy and six shares owned by Florence Wesley Cartier. The file includes a carbon copy of a letter Dated December 13, 1916 from Gordon Wilson, Secretary of Simplex, to Cartier informing her she is entitled to subscribe to 24 shares of capital stock. The letter is contained in an envelope with printed Simplex return address marked returned to Sender December 15, 1916. The reverse of the envelope has a printed color stamp for the “First Pan-American Aeronautic Exposition” to be held in New York City from February 8 to 15, 1917. There is a carbon copy of a letter from the Treasurer to Company President George H. Houston, dated January 8, 1918 summarizing efforts to locate 18 shares of stock outstanding. There is an original and a carbon copy of a List of Preferred Stockholders as of September 25, 1917. There is a typed transcript of the Certificate of Incorporation dated September 24, 1913 that lists the stockholders, certificate numbers, and number of shares. There is also a spread-sheet of owners of stock in 1915 handwritten in pencil. 16 pages total.
