Biographical Note: Karen (Jones) Sandaas

Karen Jones Sandaas worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines from 1965-2003. She was born in Seattle, Washington on February 11, 1945. Throughout her career as a flight attendant she flew aboard the Vickers Viscount, Boeing 727, 707, and 747, Douglas DC-8 and Caravelle aircrafts with routes from Chicago, Illinois; San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; and Sydney, Australia. Her father and uncle were United Airline captains. Similarly to Karen, her mother and sister worked as flight attendants. Karen J. Sandaas passed away on February 6, 2013.

Content Description The Karen (Jones) Sandaas United Airlines Flight Attendant Collection is a small collection consisting of brochures collected by Karen Sandaas during her time as a flight attendant for United Airlines from 1965-2003. The brochures are predominantly advertisements related to a career as a stewardess for United Airlines and the qualifications needed. One booklet titled "United Flight Blazer Look" illustrates the uniform pieces designed by Stan Herman. There is one clipping from 1938...
