Historical Note

Hamilton Field, later known as Hamilton Air Force Base, began construction in 1932 and was completed in 1935. The facilty was in service from 1935 until 1974, when it was decommissioned. In 1983, the field was transerred to the United Stated Army until its final closure in 1988. Ownership was tranferred and the area was redeveloped for public and private usage, as well as a tidal wetland restoration project.

Abstract Harold W. Zipp was an engineer at the Boeing Company for forty years. The collection documents his career, particularly his tenure in Wichita, Kansas, with diaries, photographs and other documents.
