Historical Note

Airfield. Founded in the 1920s. In 1946, Pan American Field and the 36th Street Army Airport were joined after being purchased by the Dade County Port Authority. The new field was renamed Miami International Airport in 1948.

Contents of the Collection

The Edmond B. Abbott Pan Am Airways Clipper Photograph Collection is a small collection that consists of correspondence from Edmund Abbott to Aggie and John Diebold in 1984 along with two black-and-white 7x9" photographs of Pan American's amphibious Clipper aircraft, taken in Florida, 1937. One photograph features a Pan Am Airways Sikorsky S-42 on a runway. The other photograph features a Pan Am Airways Sikorsky S-40 docked with passengers boarding.
