Historical Note

Founded in 1935 as Ansett Airways Pty Ltd, the airline operated out of Melbourne, Australia. In 1957, Ansett Airways bought its competitor, ANA (Australian National Airways). The airline then was known as Ansett-ANA until they changed the name to Ansett Airlines of Australia in late 1968. Later, in 2000, Ansett was bought by Air New Zealand. Due to financial struggles, the airline ceased operations on March 4, 2002.
