Abstract

Ralph H. Wandrey (1921-2020) was a World War II American fighter pilot and ace. The Ralph Wandrey Fighter Ace Collection documents fighter pilot and ace Ralph Wandrey's World War II service as well as activities associated to his veteran status, from 1935-2009. A smaller amount of material is personal in nature. Types of material include military records, a pilot's log, photographs, scrapbooks, correspondence, pamphlets, personal and educational records and clippings.

Abstract

The collection contains photographs and documents related to the life and World War I service of German-American Joseph Fritz Wehner (1895-1918). Wehner achieved Ace status and received the Distinguished Service Cross for his service in the 27th Aero Squadron before being killed in action.

Contents of the Collection The collection is a single color lithograph of a digital illustration titled "Fifteen" and created by artist Dan Zoernig. It depicts Lieutenant James Kasler as the pilot of in-flight North American F-86 Sabre "Martha Lee" next to another aircraft. The lithograph is undated, but was possibly created circa 1990s, as an homage to Kasler becoming the 15th jet ace of the U.S. Air Force. The print is autographed by "Col. James H.
