Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (Ohio)
Subject Source: Library Of Congress Subject HeadingsScope Note: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) is an active base near Dayton, Ohio. It started as Wilbur Wright Field, in 1917, commonly called Wright Field. A portion of Wright Field was renamed Patterson Field in 1931. McCook Field was also established here in 1917 and its functions were reassigned to Wright Field when it closed in 1927. Wright Patterson AFB was established in 1948 as a result of a merger between Wright and Patterson Fields.

Abstract Frank Wilbur Wright (1886-1950) of Portland, Oregon spent most of his adult life in the military, with service spanning the Oregon Naval Militia, Oregon National Guard, U.S. Army Air Service, Air Corps, and Air Force, and both World Wars. The collection contains commissions, photographs, identification cards, and other materials relating to Wright's long military career.
