Abstract

The Emile Chourré and Chourré Family Papers is comprised of documents and scrapbooks, photographic prints and photograph albums, and assorted ephemera primarily pertaining to the life and military career of Lieutenant Commander Emile Chourré (1894-1938). Major topics include Chourré's military service, especially while stationed in Coco Solo, Panama; his service as a U.S. Naval announcer for the 1929-1931 and 1933-1934 National Air Races; and family (immediate and extended) photographs.

Contents of the Collection The Ralph L. Gjefle World War II Collection is a small collection that contains primarily textual materials relating to Gjefle's World War II experience, circa 1942-1945. The materials were collected by Gjefle, who served as a pilot in the China-Burma theater during the war. Materials include a 1943 Enlisted Man's pass and a 1942 physical fitness record card for Gjefle, as well as 1944 graduation invites for Class 44-D from Marfa Army Air Force Pilot School at Marfa Army Air Field, Texas....

Abstract

Ray (1894-1969) and Leonard (1888-1971) Grimshaw were brothers who served as mechanics during World War I. The collection contains correspondence, military documents, photographs, clippings, newspapers, a diary, and booklets primarily relating to the military service of Ray M. Grimshaw but also includes a small selection of correspondence from his brother, Leonard.

Abstract

Carol (Nicholson) Lewis (1923-1987) joined the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) in 1943 and was assigned to Moore Air Base (Texas), Class 44-W-7. The collection includes official documents, photographs, correspondence, clippings, and ephemera related to Lewis' 1943-1945 WASP service. A small amount of correspondence and ephemera concerning her marriage is also included in the collection.
