This small collection consists of a circa 1939-1945 Boeing Flying Fortress School certificate for William V. Sipple, Jr. The color lithograph features a Boeing Flying Fortress in flight. The caption printed on the front reads: "William V. Sipple, Jr., Honor Student, Boeing Flying Fortress School, Seattle, Washington." Lt. Col. James C. Stewart (1919-2004) was born in Corona, California. He joined the Army Air Force, graduated from flying school in August 1940, and was assigned to the 56th Fighter Group which was stationed in England during World War II. The Paul A. Ludwig Military Aviation Photograph Collection contains 2382 photographic prints and negatives with a very small amount of textual materials collected by Paul A. Ludwig and ranging from the late 1910s through the early 1980s. The bulk and strength of the collection is photographs of World War II-era aircraft and squadrons.
