Content Description This small collection consists of one scrapbook containing photographs and clippings relating to early aviation in and around the Tacoma, Washington area. There are 19 clippings, primarily relating to Gustav W. Stromer including stories on his July 2, 1915 Tacoma to Port Angeles flight and ones on him and Jane O'Roark. Lee Embree Collection

Abstract

Lee R. Embree (1915-2008) was born in Iowa, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1936, and was assigned to the 38th Reconnaisance Squadron as an aerial photographer during World War II. Embree was at Hickam Field, Hawaii during the 1941 Pearl Harbor bombing and took several photographs. The collection contains photographs, textual materials, audiovisual materials, and a scrapbook that relate to Embree's military service and photography as well as his post-war photography activities.

Don Gray Northwest Airlines Collection

Contents of the Collections

The collection is comprised of a Northwest Airlines Souvenir Flight Packet containing tickets, timetables, brochures, route maps, decal, postcards, and assorted travel receipts. Packet was received during a Northwest Airlines flight between New York and Seattle in July, 1954. Most of the brochures and postcards feature a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser.

Ray M. and Leonard H. Grimshaw World War I Collection

Abstract

Ray (1894-1969) and Leonard (1888-1971) Grimshaw were brothers who served as mechanics during World War I. The collection contains correspondence, military documents, photographs, clippings, newspapers, a diary, and booklets primarily relating to the military service of Ray M. Grimshaw but also includes a small selection of correspondence from his brother, Leonard.
