Archives at The Museum of Flight

Overview Peter M. Bowers (1918-2003) was an aeronautical engineer at The Boeing Company for 36 years but was more noted as an aviation historian who wrote several dozen books and close to 900 articles on aircraft. This collection is notable for the approximately 150,000 photographic images he amassed during his career, as well as his writing and research files. The materials span the early 1900s to 2003.

Content Description This small collection consists of a single item: a Bremerton Airplane Service Certificate of Flight dated August 17, 1919. The certificate reads "This is to certify that Miss Irene Petersen Made A Flight Over the City of Bremerton as a Passenger in a Boeing Airplane." It is signed by pilot "Maroney TT."

Abstract Jules Verne (J. V.) Hyde (1889-1953) and Harley Hyde (1892-1919) were brothers who served in World War I as flight instructors. The collection contains documents, clippings, and photographs relating to J. V. Hyde's military service during World War I, his post-war work as the first manager of Boeing Field, and later work at Boeing as an inspector. Abstract The Bruce R. McCaw Aviation Collection contains textual materials related to McCaw's work with Horizon Air during the early development of the regional airline carrier from 1980 through 1987, as well as assorted material from 1970 to 1997 from McCaw’s professional and personal experience as a pilot.
