Robert K. Mason B-17 Incident Report and Photographs Collection

Contents of the Collection The collection consists of an incident report and photographs of a B-17G crew, 490th Bomber Group, 850th Squadron, based in Eye, East Anglia, England with its aircraft that was damaged by enemy fire during a bombing mission on March 9, 1945. The two-page report by B-17 pilot Robert Mason describes that the crew came under flak fire en route to their bombing target: railroad yards in Frankfurt, Germany. A shell passed through the No. 2 engine in the left wing without exploding....

Roger Charles McNally (1887-1922) joined the U. S. Army in 1917 and after World War I was sent to Italy to assist with the Army’s purchase of the airship Roma. The collection consists of clippings, photographs, and assorted ephmera related to Master Sergeant McNally's career in the Army Air Corps, and his death in the airshipRoma accident.

Abstract

Ralph James Moore (1909-1963) graduated from the Boeing School of Aeronautics in 1931, was a member of the Army Air Corps during the 1930s, and worked with the Civil Aeronautics Board through the 1930s and 1940s. The collection consists of manuscripts, maps, photographs, and clippings collected by Moore during his career in the Army Air Forces. The majority of the collection is comprised of Aircraft Accident Reports from the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA).
