Fighter ace Robert M. “Rudy” York discusses his military service with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He describes his wartime experiences in the European Theater with the 370th Fighter Squadron of the 359th Fighter Group. Special focus on a bomber escort mission to Germany on November 26, 1944, during which York scored several aerial victories and earned the Silver Star.

Scope and Contents In this two-part oral history, fighter ace John R. Strane discusses his military service with the United States Navy during World War II. In part one, he describes his wartime experiences as a fighter pilot, including his time in the Pacific Theater with Fighting Squadron 15 (VF-15). Special focus on a search mission on June 19, 1944, the first day of the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Strane scored his first aerial victories on this mission while escorting a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver....
