Piester, Lee - 2016-05-06, 2016
Scope and Contents
[From transcript] A casual interview of Lee Piester by Bill Stine, both good friends and innovators in the model rocketry arena. They discuss the early start of Centuri rockets in Lee's Phoenix garage (1961) through the time that Centuri was later sold to Damon Corporation in 1971. Lee remained as president of the company until his retirement in 1976. The interview talks about the challenges of an upstart company in a hobby that had no prior precedence, their innovative development of rocket parts and kits, and their relation to their chief competitor, Estes. After retiring, Lee and his wife Betty opened a hobby store called Hobby Bench that grew to four stores in the Phoenix area.
