Contents of the Collection

From the Collection:

The Abraham J. Artig World War II collection contains photographs and military documents primarily focusing on Artig’s time as an active serviceman in the Army Air Corps, though it also contains items relating to Artig’s time in the Air Force Reserves and his post-military involvement in the B-26 Marauder Historical Society. The collection is divided into two series: Military documents and personal documents.

The military records in the collection consist of fitness tests, equipment lists, and war bond receipts, as well as Artig’s formal military record, flight log covering his flight training, and military orders. The collection also contains 77 black-and-white photographs showing Artig, his squadron, planes in flight, and bombing missions. There is one color photograph of an airplane, and five photocopies of photographs (the original photographs are not contained in the collection). The majority of the photographs contain no dating or annotation. There is also a copy of The Mister Class 44-C yearbook that is signed by many of Artig’s class mates.

Items in Series II. include the Forward by Artig’s son, Donald, intended to introduce Artig’s autobiography, some personal correspondence. Information about his death includes Artig’s obituary and grave information as well as wills he had written during the war.
