The Clarence H. Lamping World War II Collection contains textual materials and a small amount of photographic prints relating to the World War II service of Lieutenant Colonel Clarence H. Lamping. Some of the material is retrospective. Most of the material was collected by Lamping during and after his service, although some items were collected by his son, John.

The bulk of the collection is textual materials, most of which are post-war. Materials include Lamping's U.S Army Air Forces log book, the booklet, "Combat and Special Missions B-17F/G Aircraft, July 1943-June 1945," and a photocopy of page 11 of Lamping's Individual Sortie Record for 1944. Also included are two clippings; one from an unidentified newspaper, "Sgt. Wolverton is a Prisoner of War of the Germans," circa 1944, and another, "The Plane that Won the War," from This World, November 10, 1985; rosters for the 385th Bomb Group Memorial Association, and two pieces of brief personal correspondence that were originally found in the front cover of History of the 385th Bombardment Group (See Separated Materials note). Additionally, there is a packet of documents that is primarily e-mail correspondence, including an August 23, 2000 e-mail to John Lamping from the Bury St. Edmunds Records Office, Suffolk, England about the Great Ashfield airfield, as well as several e-mails to John Lamping from several crew members who served with his father, Clarence, on the Boeing B-17 "War Horse." There are also 2 photocopied pages from an unidentified book that discuss "War Horse."

The collection also contains 25 black-and-white photographs depicting military personnel. The bulk of the images are vintage prints although there is one modern reprint and a handful of photocopied images. Sizes range from 2x3" to 8x10". Some images include brief captions providing identifying and/or contextual information. Many people are identified by single name only. Identified people include Clarence H. Lamping, Skeeter Wanzak, Col. Jumper, "Jim," and Dave Maxwell. Aircraft are also visible in some shots, usually obscured, but the nose of "War Horse" is prominent in one group shot of the crew.
