Assorted clippings, 1935-1937, 1983

File — Box: Assorted oversize box 3, oversize: folder
The Jeanette R. (Rogowski) Witzkowski World War II Collection relates to the World War II-era experience of Jeanette Witzkowski, who served as a pilot and air traffic controller during World War II. It includes primarily textual materials and a small amount of photographic prints, with the bulk of the material falling within 1935-1947.

Textual materials include Civial Aeronuatics Administration (CAA) air traffic control instructional documents and aircraft clearance forms and incoming correspondence, such as from the Chicago Girls Flying Club, Valentine's Day and Christmas greeting cards; and a July 3, 1944 letter from Jackie Cochran regarding the cancellation of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) program. Also included are membership cards for the Chicago Girls Flying Club and National Aeronautic Association (NAA); printed materials, such as a 1940 program for the Chicago Girls Flying Club annual air meet and a January 1946 Women Flyers of American newsletter; a manuscript titled "Aerial Warfare in the Present War" which appears to be a mix of a paper written by Witzkowski and assorted clippings related to the war. There are also additional loose assorted clippings, primarily relating to the search for Amelia Earhart although there is a December 1983 Chicago Tribune article about George Priester.

The collection also includes 16 black-and-white photographs and 1 photographic postcard, circa 1935-1947. They are a mix of vintage prints and modern reprints. Sizes range from 2x3 to 5x7". Only one image has a caption on the reverse, "my plane," and shows an unidentified aircraft (tail number 02507). According to donor information, many of the photographs show Anthony Witzkowski, Jeanette's husband, as well as other unidentified military personnel. Images also depict aircraft on the ground, as well as with damage. One image shows a crowd at an unidentified event and one depicts a model biplane.
