Report for May 16, 1938. A Lockheed Model 14-H Super Electra (NC-17394) owned by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation crashed near Saugus, California while on non-scheduled flight carrying baggage and non-paying customers. The plane was traveling from Burbank, California to Las Vegas, Nevada, where it was due to be handed over to Northwest Airlines. The pilot was Sidney L. Willey, and the crash resulted in the death of Willey, his copilot, and all 6 passengers.
Report for July 8, 1938. A Lockheed Model 14-H Super Electra (NC-17383) operated by Northwest Airlines crashed near Billings, Montana while on a scheduled mail and passenger flight from Seattle, Washington to Chicago, Illinois (with intermediate stops). The pilot was Walter R. Bullock. The crash resulted in the death of 1 passenger, serious injuries to 2 passengers, and minor injuries to the pilot, copilot and remaining 5 passengers.
Report for May 24, 1938. A Douglas (DC-3) DST-A (Douglas Sleeper Transport) (NC-18108) operated by United Air Lines crashed near Cleveland, Ohio while on a scheduled mail and passenger service from Newark, New Jersey to Chicago, Illinois (with one stop in Cleveland, Ohio). The pilot, James L. Brandon, his first officer, the stewardess and all 7 passengers were killed.
Report for March 1, 1938. A Douglas DC-2 (NC-13789) operated by Transcontinental and Western Air crashed near Wawona, California while on a scheduled mail and passenger flight from San Francisco, California to Burbank, California. The pilot, John D. Graves, his first officer, the flight hostess, and the 6 passengers were all killed.
