Report for September 24, 1939. A Piper J-3F Cub (NC-23238) and Aeronca 50 Chief (NC-70063) crashed while racing during an air show at Wilmington, North Carolina. The pilot of the Aeronca, George Casey Harrell, died. The Piper's pilot, Roy Stevens Cavanaugh, escaped with minor injuries.

Report for May 24, 1940. A Stinson (Aircraft) SR Reliant (NC-13498) piloted by Norris William Johnson crashed near Fairbanks, Alaska while on a flight from Chicken, Alaska to Fairbanks. Johnson was killed in the crash.

Report for March 31, 1940. A Kinner Envoy Model C-7 (NC-14289) crashed during a local sightseeing tour of Seattle, Washington. Pilot Cora Sterling and her 4 passengers were killed.

Three (3) reports of minor incidents from the Air Safety Board in Washington, D.C. Dated May-June 1940.

Report for February 19, 1939. A Sikorsky S-38B Amphibion (NC-15376) operated by Pan American Airways crashed in San Juan Harbor, Puerto Rico while on a scheduled mail and passenger flight from Miami, Florida to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (with stops). Captain G. W. Snow, 7 crew members, and 21 passengers survived uninjured.

Twenty (20) reports of minor incidents from the Civil Aeronautics Board. Dated January-February 1940.

Report for January 12, 1940. A Douglas (DC-3) DST (Douglas Sleeper Transport) (NC-18105) operated by United Air Lines crashed near Moline, Illinois while on a scheduled mail and passenger flight from Newark, New Jersey to Oakland, California (with stops). Pilot Charles E. Wheeler, his copilot, a stewardess and 5 passengers sustained minor injuries.

Report for August 15, 1939. A Lockheed Model 10-A Electra (NC-16051) owned by Arthur Kudner, Inc. crashed near East Hartford, Connecticut while on a flight from Long Island, New York, to Hartford, Connecticut. The pilot, Wynn Bradford and his copilot survived with major injuries, while the 3 passengers died.

Report for August 13, 1939. A Sikorsky S-43 Amphibion (Baby Clipper) (NC-16933) operated by Pan American Airways crashed near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil while on a scheduled mail and passenger flight from Miami, Florida to Rio de Janeiro (with stops). The pilot, Addison G. Parsons, 3 crew members, and 10 passengers were killed, while 2 passengers escaped with injuries.

Forty-four (44) reports of minor incidents from the Air Safety Board in Washington, D.C. and the Civil Aeronautics Board. Dated March-June 1940.

Report for February 4, 1940. A Beech D17S (SD17S) Staggerwing (NC- 20751) crashed near Hammond, Louisiana during a chartered flight from Denver, Colorado to New Orleans, Louisiana. The pilot, Donald T. Craig, and 4 passengers were all killed.

Report for February 14, 1940. A Piper J-3F Cub (NC-22890) crashed near Pittsburg, Kansas during a training flight conducted by the Civilian Pilots Training Program at the Kansas State Teachers College. The pilot, Sam Kay Von Schriltz, died in the accident.

Report for January 12, 1940. A Beech D17S (SD17S) Staggerwing (NC-20768) crashed near Casey, Illinois while on a chartered flight from Detroit, Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona. The pilot, William B. Maycock, and his 3 passengers were all killed.
