Gese, Al - 2017-08-05, 2017
Summary
[From transcript] Al Gese talks a bit about his family, upbringing, and education. He also talks about his training as a fighter pilot and his desire to fly fighters, rather than bombers. The bulk of this interview focuses on the downing of his Lockheed P-38 Lightning in France and his evading capture by the Germans with help from French civilians. He felt it was their heroism that saved him, and he is forever in their debt. After the war, he stayed in contact with those French families and later had a Stele erected in their honor in France.
