From the Series:

Series III. Jobmaster Company consists of business records from CLS's company. The series is divided into eight subseries, with the first three consisting of general business records and the last five relating to individual aircraft projects.

Subseries A. Administrative Files (1951-2005) consists primarily of textual business records created by CLS in relation to the daily operations of Jobmaster Company. The documents include correspondence, permits, price lists, floatplane certification lists, insurance information, handwritten notes, float conversion descriptions, aircraft fact sheets, flight logs, contracts, advertisements, pencil sketches of hangar layout, articles of incorporation, by-laws, directors' meeting minutes, and shareholders' meeting minutes, appointment books, invoices, receipts, clippings, articles, business cards, handwritten contact lists, letterhead, and a "Scotty" nameplate decal. The small number of visual and audiovisual materials consist of 5 photographs, 1 audiocassette tape labeled “Jobmaster message,” and 1 videocassette related to Jobmaster Company projects.

Subseries B. Sales Contracts (1964-2005) is similar in scope to the administrative records, although with an emphasis on sales of the Cessna 195 floatplane, as well as agreements with the Republic Aviation Division of Fairchild Aviation. The subseries contains handwritten notes, correspondence, business card, invoices, receipts, purchase agreements, brochure, price lists, aircraft registration, aircraft specification reports, and certification information. In addition, there are brokerage agreements between Jobmaster Co. and Kenmore Air Harbor, Kenmore, Washington.

Subseries C. Workshop and Products (1951-2000) pertains to the Jobmaster Company’s workshop, where all floatplane conversations took place, as well as products and equipment used during projects. There are 263 photographs and 108 negatives that capture the internal workings of the shop.

Subseries D. Boeing B & W (Boeing and Westervelt) (Model 1) Replica (1916-1994) is made up of 183 photographs, 2 videocassettes, 2 8mm film reels, technical diagrams, reports, commemorative ephemera, program booklet, invoices, receipts, correspondence, application, logbooks, registration forms, clippings, and news release. These materials provide documentation of Jobmaster Company’s commission by the Boeing Company to provide a replica of the B & W Model 1 aircraft for the company’s 50th anniversary.

The first part of the subseries documents the history of the original Model 1 aircraft through photographs, stock images compiled on videocassette, and photocopies of pages from the original logbook. The second major aspect featured in the papers is the design and construction of the replica. This aspect is revealed through photographs, reports, financial records, and a large number of technical diagrams. The third component of the subseries focuses on the roll out of the B & W Model 1 replica on May 23, 1966, for Boeing’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. There are photographs, commemorative ephemera, news release, clippings and program booklet related to the event. The images feature the aircraft prior to the reveal at the Jobmaster Company facility, its delivery to Lake Washington for takeoff, Bertha Boeing christening the aircraft with a bottle of champagne, the lift off and flight of the aircraft, as well as its descent back to Lake Washington. The final aspect of the subseries is related to subsequential flights of the aircraft such as an event in Vancouver, British Columbia to commemorate the first airmail delivery to Vancouver in 1919.

Subseries E. Cessna Aircraft (1960-2005) is related to the conversions of Cessna aircraft models into floatplanes conducted by Jobmaster Company. There are 388 photographs, 88 negatives, 6 slides, 1 audiocassette, 4 videocassettes, 2 8mm film reels that make up the subseries, as well as an operation manual with annotations, handwritten notes, hand-drawn diagrams, flight logs, and parts specifications. While there are various Cessna aircraft featured in the subseries, the materials focus primarily on the Cessna 195. A large number of the images pertain to the conversion and reconstruction of the aircraft while at the Jobmaster Company facility. There are images that were used as publicity stills for the sale of aircraft. A major aspect of the subseries relates to the crash of Cessna 195 (tail number N91P) in June of 1992. The accident involved CLS, Sonia Hewitt, and John Hewitt as they flew to Fort Nelson, British Columbia aboard the N91P. While there was damage to the aircraft, all aboard were unharmed. There are images of the aftermath of the accident, as well as the reconstruction of the aircraft.

Subseries F. de Havilland Aircraft (1976-1994) primarily consists of visual materials that capture the conversion of DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter floatplanes. There are 93 photographs, 35 negatives, 20 slides. The images showcase the aircraft during build, as well as the finished product. The pictures also illustrate the personal use of these aircraft by CLS during fishing and camping trips with friends.

Subseries G. Howard (Aircraft) DGA (1944-1991) contains materials related to the conversions of Howard DGA aircraft by Jobmaster Company, primarily the N91J floatplane and N26J floatplane. There are 97 photographs, 20 negatives, 1 slide, 1 8mm film reel, a technical diagram, and hand-drawn illustrations of aircraft. The textual materials consist of handwritten notes, and an engine log. The pictures also illustrate the personal use of these aircraft by CLS during fishing and camping trips with friends.

Subseries H. Assorted Aircraft (1964-1999) is similar in scope to the aircraft projects listed above although rather than focusing on work with specific companies this series illustrates some of the one-off conversions, as well as friends with their aircraft landing at Jobmaster Company. There are visual and audiovisual materials which include 211 photographs, 42 negative, 45 slides, 2 videocassettes, and 9 8mm film reels. The textual documents consist of correspondence, invoices, business cards, materials list, articles, brochures, operation instructions, handwritten notes, graphs, and a listing of aviation tools and their definitions. Some highlights include images taken of the Platis-Porter floatplane conversions, which CLS demonstrated in Sion, Switzerland in July of 1964. In the same month, CLS demonstrated the Dornier-27 in Lausanne, Switzerland and Munich, Germany. Lastly, there are images that show CLS’s travels to Colombia were he showcased the Piper PA-23-250 Aztec Nomad floatplane in 1979.

All the files in each of the subseries are organized chronologically.
