Content Description

From the Collection:

The Robert T. N. Chen Aeronautical Engineer Collection is a small collection that documents Robert Chen’s work in the field of aeronautical research and engineering, specifically as an employee with NASA's Ames Research Center, from the mid-to-late 20th century. The collection contains both visual materials and textual documents that date from 1960 to 2015. These documents give insight into Chen’s professional development, from his education, research projects, as well as his achievement awards and certificates.

The visual materials consist of 17 photographs which illustrate both the personal and professional aspects of Chen’s life. The photographs that document his personal life include images of Chen as a young boy in Taiwan that are associated with his school examination certificate and university certificate, passport photographs, as well as images of Chen and his wife while travelling together. The images related to his professional work are from the period that Chen was employed with the Ames Research Center. There are photographs of Chen presenting at a conference, featured with coworkers boarding helicopters, and images of assorted rotorcraft in flight that Chen helped engineer.

The remaining materials are textual and consist of awards, certificates, education records, passports, correspondence, and letters of employment related to his work with the Taiwanese Power Company. In addition, there are transcripts from an oral history conducted in 2015 of Chen by Su-Ching Wang.
