Photo album #2, undated (circa 1930s-1960s)
Scope and Contents
The album has been dismantled and rehoused into two binder-boxes for preservation purposes but the order of the photographs has been maintained. Inscriptions from the album pages have been transferred to the backs of the photos.
The first binder-box contains 51 images of assorted aircraft: bi-planes, monoplanes, German aircraft, World War I, World War II, Golden Age; 12 images of Curtiss aircraft, mostly World War II planes; 62 images of assorted aircraft, mostly Army and Air Force, World War II planes; 12 images of Grumman Navy aircraft (including one image of Navy Fighter Ace Butch O'Hare); 16 images of Navy aircraft, including dirigibles; five images of dirigibles; six images of Lockheed aircraft, mostly passenger planes; 13 images of "Famous Lockheed" aircraft, planes belonging to Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh, Laura Ingalls, Howard Hughes, etc.; 11 newspaper clippings and small photographs of Max Witters and his flight students; 77 images of miscellaneous aircraft and people: commercial planes, transport planes, flying boats; 10 images of Fairchild aircraft; 14 images of miscellaneous aircraft, mostly racing planes, autogyros; four images of experimental aircraft; 52 images of miscellaneous aircraft, labeled "Puddle Jumpers"; 32 images of miscellaneous aircraft, mostly Boeing B-17s and racing aircraft; 24 images of local airfields, businesses, locales, people and aircraft; six images of Kent, Washington and aircraft destroyed in Kent fire; 35 images of commercial and transport planes, including the DC series, Lockheed Constellation, Boeing 247; 12 images of early air mail aircraft; four military calling cards and portrait of Bill Hendricks; four military cartoons by J.H. Dil (Army Air Field, Marfa, Texas) and photo of unidentified flight crew; 15 images of assorted aircraft and people.
The second binder-box contains 123 images of racing aircraft, circa 1930s-40s; nine assorted images of aircraft in flight, all World War II, labeled "Combat"; 67 images of racing aircraft, circa 1940s - 1960s; 76 images of Boeing aircraft, from early biplanes and float planes through B-29s; one image of an unidentified aircraft labeled "at Marfa, TX"; 27 images of activities at "Marfa Army Air Field, T.F.T.S, Texas", including aircraft, training exercises and servicemen; 14 images of aircraft accidents and crashes; 17 images of early jet aircraft; 109 images of World War II domestic and foreign aircraft (including Russian, Swedish, Japanese, English, Canadian), images local civil aircraft, a silk strand from a Japanese parachute, and a guest pass for Seattle Fly-In Potlach; 27 images of foreign aircraft, aircraft accidents, USAF aircraft and servicemen.
