Biographical Note

Brian Edward Barents was born on January 3, 1944 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University in 1966. That same year he entered the Michigan Air National Guard. Barents then continued on to complete his postgraduate at University of Michigan and learned to fly at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Barents' career has been long and varied, starting in 1965 as an assistant buyer for General Motors Corporation, Detroit. In 1989, after a variety of jobs in sales and marketing, he became president and chief executive officer of Learjet, Inc. in 1989. He also served on the board of directors.
