Biographical Note

James Osgood Funk was born August 3, 1917 in Columbus, Mississippi. In 1940, he enlisted in the United States military. Funk was a former bombadier with crew 57 of the B-29 "T Square 54" during World War II. James Osgood Funk died on May 30, 1998.

Abstract Lt. Col. John R. Buschmann compiled this information about the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, known as "T-Square 54," through personal research and interviews with former crew members. In 2015 these materials, including a short history of the plane written by Lt. Col. Buschmann, were donated to the Museum of Flight in an effort to keep the physical plane and its history housed in one location.
