Biographical Note

Bernard Joseph Hilderman was born on August 29, 1920 in Topeka, Kansas. During World War II, he painted nose art on aircraft with the 121st Naval Construction Battalion, also known as "Seabees." Post war, he was a partner at B & B Sign Company.

Hilderman married Florence Reeb (1919-2002) on September 29, 1942 and the couple had a daughter. He died on December 7, 1986.

Contents of the Collection The Thomas Cooper World War II Photograph Collection is comprised of 42 photographs mostly taken by Paul A. Payne, with whom Thomas Cooper served in United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theater of World War II. The photographs were taken on Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands between 1944 and 1945.
