Biographical Note
Eugene "Gene" Mapelli married Velda King on January 2, 1948 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He opened H. Mapelli and Son, a wholesale meat company, in 1950. In the 1970s, Gene and Velda relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada and opened Mapelli Meat Company. Gene Mapelli passed away in October 2003.

Contents of the Collection
The Velda King Mapelli Air Racing Collection is comprised of hundreds of photographs and a small amount of negatives; textual materials suchs as brochures, certificates, ID cards, licenses, assorted ephemera, and correspondence; and race booklets from assorted races.
