Biographical Note: Gordon S. Williams

Gordon Sear Williams was a public relations manager for the Boeing Company in the mid-late 20th century.

Born in 1916 in Seattle, Washington to George and Mary E. Williams, he obtained a degree in journalism from the University of Washington. He started working at the Boeing Company in 1940 but left to serve in World War II in 1942. He served in the Coast Guard combat photography unit during the war. He returned to Boeing in 1945 as wored as a public relations writer. In 1949 he became assistant news bureau manager and was promtoed to news bureau manager in 1952.

In addition to his role at Boeing, Williams was an avid photographer and amassed a substantial collection of images. He was active with the Aviation/Space Writers Association and the American Aviation Historical Society.

He married to Alice Marcella "Marcie" Jeans in 1943 and they had three daughters. He died in 1985 in Washington.

Overview

Peter M. Bowers (1918-2003) was an aeronautical engineer at The Boeing Company for 36 years but was more noted as an aviation historian who wrote several dozen books and close to 900 articles on aircraft. This collection is notable for the approximately 150,000 photographic images he amassed during his career, as well as his writing and research files. The materials span the early 1900s to 2003.
